This  Technical Service Bulletin introduces a revised version of the rocker lever  housing gasket for use on the K19, K38, and K50 engines.
A  revised version of the gasket, Part Number 3630839, was phased into  production at the Cummins Industrial Center, reaching 100 percent in October  1999, beginning approximately with engine serial number 37189426. Approximate  engine serial number first for the Daventry plant is 33145682, built in March  2000.

Reports  from the field of oil and coolant leaks resulted in the following revisions  to the gasket:
Coining  of the steel portion of the gasket was made wider and thicker to distribute  the loading, which had caused some of the old gaskets to split.
The seal  for a capscrew hole that is inside the housing (always nearest the intake valves) was changed to a metal washer  that is bonded with an elastomer to the steel portion of the gasket. The  previous version had only the elastomer.
The two  capscrew holes nearest the water passage were changed to add more steel so  that approximately half of the seal circumference is steel and half is  elastomer.
When  installing the gasket, make certain that all sealing surfaces are aligned  properly, particularly around the large water transfer hole. This should be  done by looking at the gasket from the side/edge before installation. If the  gasket is not flat  (i.e., has 'twist' in it) or is distorted, do not use it. Also, check the gasket, once it has been  installed, to make certain that all of the holes are aligned.
The  revised gasket, Part Number 3630839, is the only gasket now available from the supplier. The following  service kits will contain the revised gasket:
